Public Notice: 2024 Timber Harvest
Public Notice:
Pinewood Trustee, Inc. has entered into a contract with Delta Timber Company for the harvest and sale of merchantable pine and hardwood timber on approximately 50 +/- acres of the Pinewood Site. None of the timber is on or near the closed and capped landfill sections.
The harvest will commence sometime during the First Quarter of 2024. The Trustee will work with a forester to replant the harvested areas, and hopes to reintroduce longleaf pine where possible.
In 2015, U.S. Department of Agriculture Research Forester Christopher Oswalt wrote, “Longleaf pine was once one of the most ecologically important tree species in the southern United States.” Over the last century, longleaf pine forests declined from nearly 90 million to approximately 3 million acres in the mid-1990s.
Pinewood Trustee, Inc. looks forward to participating in the restoration of the longleaf pine forest in our area.
